What are you reading at the moment?

The Silk Roads by Peter Frankopan

What does a typical day look like for you?

I don’t have a typical day at the moment I have to admit. I am half way in my one-year sabbatical leave from my work in London and for the first time I am daring the freelance life. Every day can be different depending on what I am on working and where I am located.

Describe your studio/workspace

My studio is in constant fluctuation between chaos and order. Everything I need to work is stored there, which also can be in the way depending what I am working on. When starting a new artwork, part of the process is to clean up and organise the space first, then I start slowly to create a mess, which builds up until the work is complete. This process takes place every time and has become a repetitive action similar to a ritual.

Where do your best ideas come from?

Everywhere really. Triggers for ideas can be hiding anywhere, even in the most tedious and painfully mundane situations.

If Tate called you tomorrow and invited you to make work for the Turbine Hall, what would it be?

That would be a treat! It would definitely be something big, I like exaggeration; and immersive, I suppose an experience of more than one scenes. Something that would capture you with your first step in and keep you for a while in something different than what you know.

You caught me in an interim period. I had a very busy 2019, so now I am working towards a new body of work, while negotiating funding for a residency in Japan. Everything is in the air for now.
